I’m 2/3 of the way through my work trip. But it’s not all bad, we occasionally find time to have a little fun. And let me tell you, hooking up on a reef shark and fighting that bad fish is pretty fun. Instead of Volvo stuff, this years Christmas list might be a new reel with more drag, 30 lb braided line, and some longer steel leaders.

That looks like a decent work trip for sure. My favorite ones were the ones I could bring a fly rod and fish after hours.

Thats pretty much my goal in life - have lots of good stories. So far I’ d say I’ve been pretty successful.

Yeah, I get to go to some awesome places for work, and they are almost always near water, so I’ve taken up fishing semi-seriously again in the last few years. I have a fly rig I take when I go up to the PNW. Theres a few guys who fly fish down here in the Caribbean, but given the variety of fish, I prefer the versatility of a spinning rig.

Nothing wrong at all with spinning, when I’m not traveling light for work they both come. You never know when the conditions will make you pull out the spinner.

Yeah, I know what you mean. Each rig has its own uses, thats why I have a few. I keep this one down here because I come often enough, and I have a decent one back home, and the fly rig, and a few cheapie rigs for friends to use.
But Im definitely building a baby shark rig next. One of the locals here wants to take me spear fishing, but the weather has been uncooperative thus far, however that may also be a thing st some point.

I have a nice TFO fly rod that breaks down into 4 pieces so it goes in an overhead bin well. That plus my vest full of gear. I used to fly my waders, but that became a hassle and it was usually easier to just buy a pair of cheap $50 waders on location and give them to someone I know locally/goodwill or chuck them when done.
Spear fishing sounds awesome - if you ever get there send us a dispatch!

Sounds like a nice fly setup. I have an 8 piece rod thats surprisingly good for the $30 I paid for it. The reel it came with was plastic junk so I got a nice Cabelas reel to replace it. I don’t have waders yet, so far been making due with old tennis shoes and quick dry pants.
We are having issues and may end up going home early , so spear fishing may not happen , but at least now I have a contact down here. Maybe next trip.
